If you’re here, then you will probably be aware that my first book - ‘Out of Space | How UK Cities Shaped Rave Culture’ - was published in July 2022.

This new online space I’ve set up is an endeavor to give myself some wiggle room to explore my own editorial agenda, riffing off many of the themes I explored in the book.

So by subscribing, you can expect interviews and features about club culture and electronic music, all spinning around notions of geography, urban landscapes and the places where we now get our aural fixes.

I’ll be including links to any features or articles I get published elsewhere as well as publishing pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

Why a Substack? Well, after writing the book and seeing it unleashed on the wider world, certain clubs like Printworks in London and Gut Level in Sheffield - two ventures at opposite ends of the nightlife spectrum - both went through significant upheaval. Printworks’ life is now coming to an end while Gut Level has been forced to move on from its previous location.

So it seems obvious that many of the issues around the fight for creative space in cities are very much living and breathing. This is a way of continuing discussion, conversation and more.

If this sounds bonza, then please subscribe here…

Everything will be free to begin with and I’ll be aiming to publish content every month if not more…

As a teaser, here are some of the most recent bits of work I’ve recently undertaken to get your whistles wet.

Composer Magazine | Anja Lauvdal | Interview

MusicTech | Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs | Interview

The Quietus | Acid Klaus | Interview

Melodic Distraction | Griff Meraki | Listen
